Yes, we too are fans of Microsoft Publisher and are sad to see it shut down.
The official statement from Microsoft is here: Microsoft Publisher
Microsoft has delayed sun setting applications before, however you need to be prepared if you want to access your .pub files after the scheduled October 2026 shutdown.
Microsoft is stating the files will no longer open or work after the shutdown of Publisher.
There are several options:
1. A lot of the functionality for Microsoft Publisher is now integrated in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
2. Microsoft has Microsoft Create https://create.microsoft.com/en-us?ocid=oo_create_visitors_templates_publisher which provides a variety of templates to create documents, presentations, etc.
3. Adobe Express offers a free limited product and 30 day trial https://adobesparkpost.app.link/AnkNdGxthOb
4. Print Shop – Broderbund https://www.broderbund.com/the-print-shop-deluxe-8 – more consumer based but can get the job done.
Remember to make sure you either print, Microsoft Print to PDF, Adobe PDF your Publisher documents or convert them to another format ahead of the shut down. Plan to have this done by September 2026 to be safe.
And if you want to let them know your opinion on the Microsoft Publisher shutdown, comment to them politely on X @MicrosoftHelps
As we find out more information, we will share it here.
